Pedee, Oregon
Don’t be scared of Portland unless you really want to go put a frog costume on and dance around the ICE building. Airport is convenient to immediately accessing the freeway to the Gorge, you’ll be out of the metro area in about 15-20 minutes. Multnomah falls is a short distance into the Gorge, a convenient stop. Good food there if you need a meal. You’ll also want to go up to Crown Point.

Skamania lodge is a bit spendy but easy to reach from the airport and is worth a night or two. It’s on the Washington side, cross the Bridge of the Gods at Cascade Locks to access. Nice to explore the lower river from there, short drive to Hood River. Make sure you explore the fruit growing above HR and watch the windsurfers, there’s not many other places in the world to see the amount there are in HR.

The gorge itself you can see in 2-3 lazy days. Lots of side trips, just depends on what you like to do.
