Roseglen, North Dakota | I think it's been established on AT that it's a love/hate relationship with Farm Credit and it varies immensely by areas.
I don't hate them; just can't do business with them. You are a number, not a person.
Ask for a loan, then it has to go "upstairs," let you know in a few days. At the bank, sit at the desk and get a yes or no.
Borrowed money for 40 years (lots of it) at local bank.
For operating loans all they ever asked for was a crop mortgage, which isn't worth a whole lot.
Farm Credit wants;
Your land
Your machinery
Crop mortgage
Assignment on FSA pmts
Lien on crop insurance.
Then if you have a bad year they come for the wife and children.
If another bad year, they call the loan and come for the farm.
In our area, it's so bad, not only are the borrowers leaving, their staff is leaving. And the farmers follow along.
