I appreciate the info John. I'm going to vent a little bit:

My grandfather died of a heart attack at 69 in 1981. He was a dairy farmer all his life and probably weighed in around 200.

My dad's brother died of a heart attack at 73. He was a dairy farmer all his life and weighed in around 160 most of his life.

My dad died of a heart attack at 71. He was a dairy farmer all his life and weighed in around 200 most of his life. He took Lipitor and baby aspirin for at least 10 years before he died to try to prevent a heart attack.

I'm 54. I'm not sure if I can beat genetics. Dad was doing everything the doctors told him to do and it doesn't seem to have helped. Yes he could have dropped 20 pounds but my uncle was 40 pounds lighter and it only gained him 2 years of life.

I just had blood work. Cholesterol is 184 (193 in 2021), HDL is 38 (38 in 2021), and LDL is 123 (133 in 2021). For the past 30 days I have been limiting carbs and have lost 15 pounds. Need to lose 15 more, but I'm feeling better.

Will I live longer than my dad, uncle and grandfather? If I have my fathers genes, I doubt. But I want to feel better while I am living.

Maybe I have my mothers genes and will live to 93 like her dad. He was a dairy farmer, weighed about 150 and smoked 2 packs a day since he was a teen. Her grandfather was a dairy farmer and lived to 90. He weighed 220 and smoked a pipe.

Genes or lifestyle? Seems like genes can make a bigger difference. Vent over.
