Faunsdale, AL | I recently had the 22SI DELCO alternator on my 9170 fail completely. It had been charging around 12.5 on the gauge in the cab for more than a few years, but the batteries stayed up and I never questioned it. Mainly figured it was the gauge or the wiring since it was keeping the batteries charged. I do not run at night very often and I did notice when I did use the lights for a while that the gauge would drop below 12.
After repairing the alternator which included a new regulator, it charges at over 14 volts like all my other equipment. I think this will be better for battery life though it has tended to go through batteries since it sits unused for long periods. I installed a disconnect on it several years ago when I put in the last set of batteries and always use it. | |
