My dad bought a1960 Ford 1 ton new. His issues where it only had 6  bolt  wheels and broke some studs  once with a big load. It had the 6 cylinder motor which was weak till the neighbor mechancinc over hauled it and souped it up still was weak but better. He tired to pull a 30 ft cattle trailer  with only time it bot to 50 was   going down hill you hoped to top the hills about 30. He finally found a 1979 Chevy1 ton with a 454 and a a speed that  was atraler pullar and nice to drive. The old  v-8 of that eara was a peice of junk forget the idea.  Find a truck the vintage of your Ford with aV-10 you will ike it .I have a04 with V-10 and it pulls fine and starts goog.
