Equipment has a far larger monopoly than seed and chem. Not sure on fertilizer. I don't know what the answer is, but I doubt it's technology. Keeping up with the Jones is darn expensive.

You HAVE to buy new equipment every year to plant a crop? Not sure how equipment manufacturers have a bigger monopoly than other "input" suppliers...they are the one input you have a choice of what you do, more than use more, use less, or go without.
At least machinery you have the option to keep a tractor at the end of a season and use it next year...I'm also not sure I've heard of many OEM's on capital hill lobbying for the farm bill and bigger farm payments, maybe it's happened though
