You pull the trigger and you're welding. Anyone can weld with a wire welder.

More CO2 or pure CO2 for dirtier tasks, more argon blend for cleaner. We haven't really found a difference yet.

You can get really cheap decent performing gassless machines that run Flux Core wire from places like harbor freight. We have a Miller with gas.

Argon and CO2 require their own regulators, as CO2 can and will freeze an argon one.

Do not think a bigger physical size means a better machine. Inside a modern wire welder there is very little.

You can weld aluminum with a spool gun with a wire welder.
