Was thinking about buying a wire welder but know very little about them. Just something for general farm repairs. Currently using a fifty year old Lincoln ac.

They are easier to use then stick welding. I would look at a milermatic 252 or Lincolnidealarc 256. You will need shielding gas I would recommend 25% CO2 75% Argon mix. Someone might mention flux core, if you don’t know much about welding don’t mess with it. Spend the money and get a tank of shielding gas. It is easier and less spatter. Also when you are using shielding gas it is important you aren’t exposed to any wind so if you are welding outside you need to make a wind break. As far as setting the welder, you have voltage and wire speed. No amperage setting. Amperage is indirectly adjusted through wire speed and wire size. For wire buy ER70S-6 in size .035. If you only weld larger material maybe get .045.
