Subject: RE: Corn planter JD 7000 vs newer 1770

In my farming career I started with a 7000 4 row wide finger, traded for a 7200 8 row wide vac, switched to a 1760 12 row 30 inch vac. The 1760 is hydraulic fold, the 7200 was a factory manual fold, and if I remember correctly 7000 planters that fold were cut and hinge installed by a machine shop. The newer factory fold planters, such as 1760 and 7200, are better, easier to fold. We pulled the 7200 with a JD 4030, the 1760 with a well worn 4430, both handled the vac just fine. The 4030 I ran the vac on the 7200 with the scv, on the 4430 I added power beyond for the 1760. What tractor are you planting with, the vac doesn't take that much hydraulic flow, don't discount 1760 planters, nice simple planters that will work well for you.
