Iowa | This fall I took 60 6 inch soil tests on 180 acres in 3 acre grids using Mehlich III ICP on newly rented ground on a 5 year lease, it appears each 3 acre square has a different set of problems! I have a soil range of CEC 12 to 30, p is 4 to 128, ph 5.3 to 7.9, K 126 to 464, mg 266 to 808, ca% 48 to 93, s 8 to 12, zinc .9 to 2.1, copper .9 to 2.2, boron .2 to .7
I figured I would start with addressing the low ph areas first, and at same time try build the calcium to 65%, problem is some areas have high magnesium 600-800 and ph of 6.6 but low calcium % 53-60
What I am thinking is 200 lbs AMS + 1,000 lbs of gypsum plus a deep ripper for the highest 700-800 mg areas, use local dolomitic lime for areas where mg is 300-500 ppm. I figure I can add enough phosphate to get to 30 ppm but getting the ph and ca% corrected will help the most.
Any suggestions?
