A man who was some years older than me always drove a pickup that seemed to be ready for the scrap yard, old clothes etc.
When news came he had bought another farm one fella in the group with the big shiny 4X4 remarked 'how did xx afford to buy that farm'  Another wise person in the group said 'because he doesn't spend his $$

Also remember a interview on radio of a garbage truck driver.
When he mentioned he picked up the garbage in a certain area which was apparently very well to do part of the city the commentator remarked that he must find some nice things in the garbage there.
Garbage truck driver said 'no, not there, they don't throw anything away'
