SW OH
I know and have met a few rich people in my day. What really gets me is their appearance. I work for what most would consider rich. The company is thought to be worth over 1 billion dollars. I know the 3 owners by name and talk to them on occasion. 2 brothers and a sister ranging in age from about 48 to 35. The 2 brothers usually are dressed as you would expect. The sister however can be a surprise at times. She is in charge of HR and safety and attends our yearly safety training classes. She will often wear a tank top, hot pants, and well worn cowboy boots. Something you would find in a truck stop bar.

Several threads below I mentioned Ralph Stolle. The first time I met him was at my first 4-H meeting when I was 10. My mom and dad came to the meeting which was at his farm. Ralph's farm manager was the 4-H advisor. At some point in the meeting a man in dirty overalls, a flannel shirt, and worn leather boots showed up. At the end of the meeting he introduced himself as Ralph Stolle. My mom and dad had been talking to him during the meeting and afterwards I got a second introduction to Ralph from my dad. By his looks you would have thought he was a hired hand.

A good neighbor farmer friend of ours was at 1 time financially backed by Lynn Schiff. She and her husband Jack had money to burn. They were in the beef business together raising for Laura's Lean. My first encounter with Lynn was at the neighbors when a new batch of feeders were delivered. She was wearing old jeans, rubber boots, and a grey sweater. She reminded me of Jason's mom in the first Friday the 13th movie. If I would have met her on the street I would have been inclined to give her some money.

In conclusion, don't judge a book by its cover. The rich people I've known don't look like they rich. They look closer to poor than average.
