School of hard knocks was pretty close. Kids are little people.

Main thing is to talk to the kids and encourage them to ask a lot of questions. Kids process their emotions differently.  Talk with them using terms they understand. Good communication is priceless.

5 year old will remember Grandma, little one,, no. It is highly dependent on each child and their understanding on the cycle of life.

I've seen kids that deal with the death issue just fine and I've seen 40 year olds who became complete basket cases for years over the death issue....
