One independent repair garage did some comparisons between an older (reliable) GM 6.2 and the newer (problem) 6.2 and found that (in his study) the oil hole in the crankshaft rod journal had been chamfered excessively, making it too close to the edge of the bearing shells and oil was being squirted out excessively when under load. You didn't need a micrometer to see this. It was obvious and a bad idea by whomever was making the crankshaft itself, who was a vendor for GM, according to him. So, if you had 2 or more crankshaft vendors, trying to figure out what's going on would have complicated the diagnosis.

GM Designed and / or approved the design and is responsible for their suppliers (I am saying this as a retired Engineer from GM supplier) If you have two different suppliers (in most cases the OEM prefers to have two for critical components) GM is still responsible for each that includes any design or manufacturing changes. IF the supplier violated the contract, (that includes both cost and quality guidelines) it is GM's responsibility to make them pay for the damages. But at the end of the day, this is a GM problem. GM has an entire group that is responsible for purchased components and every supplier, and it is their responsibility the insure that the supplier is following the manufacturing process and controls.
