Central Nebraska | Hopefully the mods move this thread to the computer forum where it is more appropriate but I'll answer it here anyway.
About 15 years ago Microsoft upped their game in the antivirus arena. They purchased a small AV company and built it into their Windows Defender platform. If you are not operating in a commercial managed IT environment I see no reason to spend money on a third party platform. The one thing that no AV platform can protect against is uneducated users. Educate yourself and your family/users on what is appropriate and how to process emails and you could run without any AV software.
FWIW.....I was associated with a company that had a spectacular IT department and regularly trained its employees on IT safety. All the software was in place but they still had an incident where their was data was stolen and the system was locked and encrypted until a ransom was paid. The "hole" in the system was a user in a remote location who clicked on a link in an email. Also, they did not pay the ransom as they had backups in place to restore the data. |
