95 miles NW of Quitaque, TX | New data center going in 10 or so miles east of me. 4 nuclear reactors with natural gas turbins for electricity. The natural gas will be pulled from below the farm. Yes this used to be a Texas Tech experiment farm and now will produce AI data. The problem that most people are worried about is the plant will water from the Ogallala aquifer. Amarillo is rather dry and people are worried the data center will suck the aquifer dry. So in a few years come to Amarillo to see the worlds largest data center and see 5800 less acres of cotton, corn, wheat, and milo.

Fermi America is constructing the world's largest data center campus, called the Hypergrid, near Amarillo, Texas, with the Texas Tech University System as a partner. The project will be a 5,800-acre site with 18 million square feet of data centers and will be powered by a combination of nuclear, natural gas, solar, and wind energy. It is located in Carson County, near the Pantex plant. Project Scope: The Hypergrid is planned to be the largest energy and data complex of its kind globally. Location: The campus is situated in Carson County, approximately 35 miles north of Amarillo, near the Pantex nuclear weapons plant. Power Sources: The project aims to be powered by a unique blend of energy sources, including a potential nuclear complex, natural gas, solar, and wind. Partnership: The project is a partnership between Fermi America and the Texas Tech University System. Capacity: The campus is designed to provide up to \(11\) gigawatts of capacity, which could power over \(8.2\) million homes. Timeline: The project is ambitious, with a goal of having the first nuclear reactor online by 2032. Additional Details: Fermi America is also partnering on cooling technology that aims to reduce water usage by using hybrid-dry cooling systems and exploring recycled water sources. |
