| Back in the early 80s I went to an auction looking for a chore tractor that I could just put on a feed grinder and leave it. On the same auction there was a piece of junk that brought several thousand,it was either a first or last serial number that a collector wanted to rebuild.
At one time I had a job testing tractors,in about the middle of the 30 series run we had a couple engineers following one particular tractor down the assembly line one day. After it was built I was crawling in it to run tests and was told to run whatever tests I could with my testing software and when I was done to take it to the loading dock so it could be hauled back to PEC for more testing. That was the true first R series built but it had an 8430 serial plate and decals on it. I always wondered what happened to it and if it worth any extra.
