I want the next generation to work as hard as I did, I want the next generation to go through the struggles and tough times I had to go through to make a go of it. I want them to have some risk in order to have the reward. Renting for less and selling for less is understandable, but they still need to "Pay to be able to farm".
Thats something that needs dealt with in multiple conversations long before youre in a spot to rent them or gift them the farm. Honestly if you taught them to be good operators, just having a secure land base at a fair price is huge. Ths next huge thing is having things set up to where they dont have to buy siblings out the day you pass at market value. Im also in no way saying the non farm siblings should be shorted either. Plenty of ways to set that up if thinking far enough in advance. |
