You should be able to tell how they are handling it on the other end when you get the 1099 since they have to check a box.  If I had to guess if they are sending a 1099-MISC it is in BOX 3 Other Income or Box & Over $5000 in direct sales for resale.  The thing is Box 3 is incorrect since hay sales are not other income and Box 7 is not correct unless they are reselling your hay.
