I just put new lifters in my 5.3 at 180k. I got off easy as it didn’t wipe the cam or score a cylinder and it broke at home in the drive. Its a job and was not cheap (1500 ish in parts) but for 180k and the first real work done not too bad. Sounds like the newer ones are worse off almost like they want to destroy the reputation of the small block.


well, the last small block in a pickup was in a 2000 classic, so its reputation is only affected by the stupid intake gasket design of the 96+
