Central Missouri | Dr Joel, on slide 21 you have the factors that affect photosynthesis. I’m curious why you didnt include key macro and micro nutrients. I would think that if one of those is limiting the photosynthetic process for yield goal that the yield would be capped by that nutrient.
Btw that is a very good class presentation. Photosynthesis produces sugar and sugar drives yield along with how well nutrition allows the plant to move the sugar where it is needed to build yield.
33% to roots 50% to grain on slide 30. So the more sugar produced through photosynthesis the more yield possible which is why your presentation is so important to increasing yield.
Take your presentation one step further and teach students how to identify which factors and or nutrients are limiting sugar production and transport and how to correct the limitations. You might also teach them how total microbial activity in the soil affects co2 production and increasing total microbes increases co2 release and thus potential sugar production through the photosynthetic process.
Tying it all together was what was never done at mizzou when i was an agronomy student in the mid 80’s. Thanks for posting I really enjoyed going through the slides.
