| All cars are boxy looking "crossovers" because then they can call them a "light truck" for CAFE standards. "Light trucks" have less stringent mileage and CO2 restrictions. It is the reason you could buy a lot of economy cars that hit 40 mpg in the past but you would struggle to buy an economy car today (like a Chevy Trax) that can hit even 30 mpg. It's harder to meet the standards for a "passenger car" than a light truck so therefore automakers decided that every car they made was actually a light truck. Your tax dollars hard at work. They're from the government and they're here to help!
