The Heart of America Mega Site project was just announced. They don't have all the land acquired yet, but I'm told it will be "Bought by the square foot, and not the acre". $1.50 a square foot range. 5000 acres. That's about 40 miles East, South East of me. Then I learned about another site that been bought, a Rock Quarry site about 18 miles South that has been bought by a data center company, as well. They apparently want the old quarry and underground passages for cooling water. There's also a huge solar project going on at both sites. I should probably be happy, but all I see is increased electric rates and jacking up the cost of everything locally. Missouri Legislature already has a bill on the books to let electric Utilities increase rates to pay for construction costs while they're building them.
