Had an issue this fall. We grow non GMO soys for a crush plant a few hours away and have for about 6 years. Haven’t had a GMO bean anyway near our bin site or in any of our equipment in those 6 years. Company sends 8 axle trailers and huge hoppers and we pay for trucking to their plant. This year I had 2 loads rejected for GMO contamination and those proteins were from RR and liberty. We were forced to dump them as GMO beans and lost our $2 premium on 4000 bushel. Luckily I kept seed samples from all 4 varieties we grew. I mailed the seed samples to the state lab and one variety tested hot for exactly what the elevator found. Case closed, not sure how it happened but it did. I send the results to the DSM of this certain large seed company (everyone here knows them) and he passes the info (evidence) “up the chain”.
A few weeks later the DSM and sales guy show up during corn harvest expecting a corn/soybean seed order and tell me they haven’t heard what the uppers are doing about the issue and they’re trying to find what happened and where the contamination came from. I gave them a smaller corn seed order than I usually do with the understanding that this price isn’t moving and they are not getting a check until we are made whole. It has been almost a month since I’ve last heard anything on this subject and they still have not gotten a check from me. I’ve been really friendly with these guys over the past 10 years but I have plenty of other good company’s to choose from here and it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I didn’t grow their stuff this year but at what point do I cancel the order and lawyer up. I know it’s only 8k but it’s still 8k. Thanks for the input.

Do you have the DSM’s phone # or just the reps?

Personally, I’d just call them every week as though you ARE the company’s rep and remind them of pay period deadlines and how much you want to continue to be a loyal customer so you are “concerned” about them /senior management getting stuff done. You’re just the head of the DOGE department of your farm.

Edit: if those folks do not answer for 2 consecutive weeks as they might be proverbially “rolling their eyes” while they decline your call, then send in a nice “feedback message” to the website with your customer #, a brief 2-3 bullet summary of your seeds NOT purity results, and your concern that something awful has happened to the reps because they haven’t returned your call.

A nice corporate person will promptly call you within 12-24 hours and let you know that your concern will be kicked up a notch…..
