| Later corn isn't all bad, we've seen it do just as well ourselves. Strips would've been nice to try but hard to find a 20in strip bar. Annual rye before corn was bad. Put on tougher clay to help water soak in. Killed early to middle march after 2-3in growth. No tilled with precision planter with 25% N planter 25% sprayer 50%vrt SD. Never dried out and was end of May before we had to mud it in while everything else was planted 2-3 weeks prior. 100bu less than field right next to it conventional tilled. One blunder with that and it'll take 10 years to pay for it with the gain cover is suppose to give.
We saw soil change and soak up better (marginally, tile is where it's at). After 3 years in it, tile guy said the ground just melted putting it in. Felt good to hear but every field that's set a record since doing all this, corn and beans, has always been conventional.
Plus side is if the govt comes in and tells us how to farm, we have the means and experience to manage it.
It has its place, and with strips it sounds more feasible. But all I was cautioning on was the interest in it from others over time might not be what you think it could be
Good luck in coming year!
Edit to add: Other covers we tried: oats radish crimson clover annual cereal 10 species mix, done all the guys "in the know" said to do for our area
