Subject: RE: Cover Crops

North Central Indiana
I think we’re a little unconventional but we prefer our covers ahead of striptill corn. Tried rye before beans and no-tilling into love and dead rye. Not fun at all. But then again we have a 24 year old bean planter with spring downpressure so we don’t have the fancy control to get the beans in the ground nice. Sometimes we saw that the ground was so hard we couldn’t get openers in at all through the rye. Sometimes we went to only before corn and only on sandy or mucky soils. Personally covers are like everything else, they have a place but throwing them on everything for the sake of it didn’t impress here
