Subject: RE: No till vs strip till corn

NW IL, Mercer County
No side by side strips here but I do have 1 hilly farm that I no-till the corn. Otherwise every corn acre is fall stripped using a DMI bar with mole knives, shooting only nh3.

I went primarily this route, from no-till, back in about 2017-2019 time frame. Strip till is what I would call the “easy button” and it just makes sense to me having the benefit of a warm, residue free place to plant into, but leaving all the residue cover inbetween. Wetter springs the strips dry out better and opens the planting windows a little wider. I dont know how many acres you cover but for me I feel like I can do a better job with seed placement, be more timely, and sleep better at night doing it that way. I cant envision myself going without building fall strips even if I do eventually go away from nh3.
