Subject: RE: Roll back of auto fuel efficiency standards

They need to really roll back emissions to 2006 standards and watch the fuel economy skyrocket. No reason a diesel 3/4 ton couldn’t get close to 30 on the highway when we used to get 20 out of some very low tech stuff 20 years ago. Manufacturers have had a steady HP race they have done a great job with, no reason they couldn’t do the same with fuel economy if they weren’t so choked down.

ULSD knocked 4 mpg off my 05 dodge at 65 on the highway. It’s still better than the 21 Chevy I had, but the 17 would do better on the highway. Old dodge does about 2 better than that 17 though doing what I do every day.

My wife has a 09 Tahoe, it used to get 19 highway. Chevy put a throttle body in it and flashed computer and 16 is all she’s got now. I can’t imagine cleaning the tail pipe a bit is worth giving up 3 mpg for the environment. Much less giving up Atleast 30 HP if not more. It’s enough to be very noticeable pulling a trailer, not so much without trailer and just driving.

If I were king I’d give them some fuel economy and longevity numbers that if they hit em there’s no emission standard to hold to. Make a 3/4 ton diesel do 26mpg at 65 highway and we’ll go back to good diesel, zinc in the oil, and no cats.
