Back in the olden days, the driver would have corrected it manually with a chart.

30° product temp would have a correction factor of 1.046 using the most common SG.

Pump 400 gross gallons on the meter (non-temperature compensated), multiply by 1.046, voilà! 418.4 net gallons.

I use it the other way, I can typically haul 11,400 gallons. If I see the guy ahead of me loaded at 30°, 11,400/1.046=10,898.662. Computer loads in gross gallons at this particular place. I would probably put in 10,900 gal to load.
