Wisconsin | Unless it says PG for propylene glycol, then it's all ethylene glycol based. The difference is the corrosion inhibitor package, and they all say that you can't rely on the color, but they don't give you any other way to ID coolant, even a cat level 2 coolant test will only hint what kind it might be. So you pretty much have to guess and take a chance you're mixing different brands. The red and blue are more standardized, red is OAT, blue is SCA, but there are exceptions. They all say theirs can be added to anything, but never add any other's to theirs, so what does that mean?
Eventually you decide to screw it and mix em, or drain it and refill with what you know it is. Personally I think the worst abuse of cooling systems is hard water and lack of maintenance, not mixing small amounts by topping up with the wrong type. If you're that worried, check the temp protection, and add distilled water until it needs to be replaced. How long are you going anyway? And you're running a diesel coolant, right? | |
