This one is a couple years old but is well thought out.
I believe the final understanding will relate to two major factors:
1. GI tract's efficiency
2. GI tract's "assembly line" speed
When GI tract's "assembly line" goes to fast, fewer nutrients are absorbed, and each person's GI tract's efficiency varies.
