it says the volume of liquid changes with temperature? How do they meter it accurately? It seems like the only way to be accurate is to weigh it, but that isn't how we buy it.
After searching, I see that bobtail delivery trucks have had temperature compensation for many years. I wonder if back in the old days if certain savvy customers tried to get filled when it was cold and the propane company tried to fill everyone up in August?
Back in the late 60's a neighbor had a 1000 gal tank filled in the coldest dead of the winter here in NWIA. It was mounted on the back of an old truck that didn't run, they pulled the truck around to wherever it was needed. They didn't use any gas out of the tank and next summer on a hot 100 degree day it popped off. They hooked a chain to it, pulled it in the shade and ran water on it till the popoff shut up. So was the tank over filled to begin with or was it filled to 80% and that extra 20% filled up with liquid from expansion? I don't know the answer.
