south west in | The waste gate does two things. One is as boost raises it will open to let some exhaust bypass to keep turbo from overspending. Second as boost raises so does exhaust drive pressure. To high exhaust pressure will create some load on the engine (turning it into a compressor) and can lower effency. 30 lb boost won't hurt anything but a waste gate accurator is fairly cheap and I try to keep them working.
