Subject: RE: Insulating an Existing Pole Barn

Kingston,Mi
I have 2x6's "bookshelved" between posts with kraft papered fiberglass batts stapled to the girts. Interior has steel floor to ceiling on 3 sides with the 4th wall having plywood for the first 8 ft then finished with steel. Ceiling has perforated steel, polyethylene sheeting stapled to the lower cord of the truss and 12 inches or so (r30) of blown in fiberglass insulation.

One of the building magazines, Fine Homebuilding, had an article several years ago where they did a cost estimate versus performance and the winner was a skim coat of foam followed by fiberglass batts to give a R19 wall insulation.
