Subject: High lime rates…how much is too much at once?

Farmington, Mo
I know this has been discussed before and for the life of me…I can’t find it.

I rutinely apply VR lime rates of 2-4 tons per acre when it calls for it with no issues. Got some test results back this fall and, to my surprise, one 75 acre field calls for and avg of 9000lbs per acre ranging from as low as 3000 to as much as 15000lbs per acre!

Long term no till/rye cover crop ground going to corn in 2026. Was full season beans in 25.

We surface apply our fertilizer as well as y-drop our N on the corn. Use atrazine as our only residual.

We will spread this month (December) still have time to move into the profile. Am I setting myself up for a problem this coming spring with those high lime rates?
