"CEC that Low" 10 CEC is some decent silt loam around here gets rough when you get sub 3 CEC...

Back to OP. Here we have gone to spreading in the fall. For whatever reason expecially in front of beans seems to do better on late fall applied vs spring applied. Whether it is the salt or what. Just seems to do better fall spread.
