I have been using Barn cats for a couple years now, took a while but haven’t seen rat or mouse evidence so far this year. The original sow cat showed up 2 winters ago and has 2 grown kittens and an occasional Tom passes through. They are only active at night lately.
Coyotes and raptors keep them in hiding.
