North Central Indiana | I’ve done it on a few. Used PB Blaster on all the bolts that needed removed. I’d spray them and then use the truck to heat everything up then spray them again. Did that for a few days before I was going to work on them. I’d also recommend working on them while they’re warm. Not as warm as you can stand but I like having them more than storage temperature. Last one I did was a CP3 pump, y-bridge, pcv reroute, egr removal, passenger side up pipe and the down pipe. Took all of 12 hours. It takes patience. There’s a decent amount of stuff to remove and it’s not 100% clear what goes where if you’re putting less back on than you took off but you’ll get it. Luckily I haven’t broke a bolt on one yet but it’s bound to happen sometime. But generally I’ve found if you soak them all and get them hot and let it cool and soak them more and repeat they loosen up pretty decent. If you get a bolt that won’t come, don’t get the breaker bar out. More penetrating oil and patience and then just apply some consistent pressure with a ratchet. If you were close I’d come work on it with you, it’s a fun job honestly. Haven’t put heat shields back in any of the ones I’ve done, the down pipe should have heat wrap on it. I won’t lie, the down pipe is a SOB but it will come out and the new one goes in a lot easier. | |
