In this article it points out that Anthropic gave the program two choices accept replacement or threatened to expose the affair. So it’s not like the AI came up with the scheme on its own it seems. Companies release these stories to the press to highlight investors and the public’s awareness of them.
The “fake it till you make it” culture versus the “hide it behind closed doors” culture. Not sure which is more damaging to society and a company might be doing both.
