As always with farming, Location and weather trumps all.
Planting mid May or later, I don't think it pays. We are well drained so to speak, with lighter soils.
Not far away, on the heavy wet soils, that is probably different.
Just like population. Most places 100,000 or even 70,000 will max out yield.
I planted some last year at 300,000 and it appeared to have paid. Very light, steep ground.
