I haven't read all the responses, but I'll say we now have lots of those cables now in IL, or at least on I-57 that I know of. Yes, I believe they have mostly eliminated head-ons where the cables exist. However, it's almost unbelievable how often the cables are knocked down. It must cost a lot to have them replaced, and/or put back up constantly.

My question.....are the people (or rather their required insurance company) that knock them down being billed to replace them after their crash? Or, am I as an IL taxpayer paying for someone else's crashes constantly? Does anyone know for sure who pays?
