I know a lot of the Feedlot here will feed around 6:30 in the morning and then 1:30 in the afternoon. We do a lot of the same. I do know the sheep can be a pretty tight schedule. when you feed matters with them or else they will have lambs 24 hours a day instead of a 10 hour window During the day. Frozen dead lambs at 2 o’clock in the morning is no fun.
For gestation ewes at lambing just make sure you feed in the evening. Exact timing doesn’t matter, I just make sure it’s after 5pm for me. Actually later the better but I try not to make a habit of doing chores at 10 pm
For lactating ewes, time of day does not matter so long as they get fed. If you look at dry matter needs of a lactating ewes, they are nearly on full feed anway.
For feed lot lamb, look hard at the economics of a tmr. They are cheaper but not by huge quantities because of the high protein demands of lambs compared to cattle. Check out aerial photos of some of the big lamb feedlots in Colorado. You’ll notice many have self feeders and no bunks. But even with a tmr on feedlot lambs, they should be on self feed, so fill the bunks once a day and don’t over think it.
I’ll stress what others have said, but put it to the sheep: the sheep have to work for you and are flexible enough to do regardless of any old time thinking may say.
