When I have to be gone for a holiday, or its for cattle far from home, I sometimes get a second set of bottomless bunks and put them in a different field or pen thats fenced off. Fill them with a whole days ration the day before and shut the cattle out. Then it only takes a minute to feed the next day by opening a gate. Get a friend or neighbor if need be.

Or if its dry, just do this and feed it on the ground.

I had a neighbor that did this for up to a week. I would get off the school bus at his place, and open a different gate each day. He was just feeding hay. A TMR ration might not keep that long depending on your mixture.

They are beef cattle, the rumen is a magical thing. Changing up your feed time now and then wont matter.

Maybe take Olive's idea a step farther, put a timer on the gate to the next day's feed, I'm thinking a TMR could keep for an extra day.

My fat pen has an automatic feeder, feeds them 3 times a day. I like looking out the window and see them being fed, when it's cold and winding out, too.
