Hey guys. Not my usual post, but I’m sure most of you have been in my boots at one point. My grandfather started us on a TMR system for winter feeding on our place since the 60s and we love it. I feel we really have it dialed in. For cows and ewes, feedlot lambs and calves ever since. Always fed on a schedule and on time. My In-laws really fuss about it around the holidays. Slowly getting a divide between me and my brother/sister in laws. “Why can’t you dump a “hay” bale over the fence the night before and be done.” Very wealthy farmers with no livestock of any kind. They wouldn’t admit it but I really think they look down on the livestock, especially the sheep. Very social, involved in everything people and expect me and my wife to be the same. Unfortunately ranching doesn’t work that way for us!
I kind of don’t care what they think but I’m trying to put my foot forward to keep the peace. How much wiggle room do you have with feeding TMR? With feedlot cattle 1-2 hours max?? I wouldn’t dare be late with a lactation ration for the sheep but just had wondered.
No idea.
But, what is your backup plan when you slip and blow out a knee, fall off a horse/4 wheeler and break your back, tear out a rotator cuff? Who is your backup? The WHO is important.
If no one is the WHO except you, then that is THEE problem in my humble opinion.
Might as well have a dairy herd…. So, you’d have 7-10 kids to backfill you! |
