NE Neb | When you pull the lever sideways it pulls a shaft (84 gearshift control rod)) to that little round button switch. It bumps the button and signal is sent to autotronics. The switch is visible from outside as you are aware but the internal mechanical part that bumps the switch(84) is behind cover. When you let off the lever the spring returns shifter back to the 1234 shift area. Thats the only spring im seeing. I believe theres a little pipe plug in the housing should be able to put a guage there to check pressures of the shift.
