| Sounds good in theory, but on paper it does not look like it works that well to me, my quote to insure 52 weeks from now unborns @600# is on market value of 320.67 100% coverage is $138. 75% coverage or $240.50 is $19.
The 320/cwt. is the bottom end of the market for mediocre calves at Altoona. Take the $23/cwt. off of that so market has to go under $2.97 to before the insurance makes sense, keep on mind well prepared calves are a fair amount above what the mediorcre ones are selling for. Granted it is what the futures market does that determines if the insurance pays or not so there is a diconnect between the insurance and how one makes out on his calves when he sells. | |
