Embarrass WI
Back when WI was shotgun only, handguns were legal. I started with a 44 mag Ruger Redhawk. At that time, they didn't come scope-ready and I wanted a scope. So in about 1989 I bought a Thompson Center Contender, 14" barrel, 7x30 Waters. Killed a few with that. Then T/C came out with the Encore, and I got one of those with a 16" barrel in 7mm-08, as it was the largest available(I thought-this was pre-internet and I didn't know about the custom barrel makers). Killed deer as far as 300 yards away with that. Takes a good rest and enough time to aim.

I never had a problem with recoil with any of these. Perhaps the long barrels I preferred helped with the muzzle jump, which would maybe make the recoil seem less.

When my part of WI became rifle-legal(in 2013) I put a shoulder stock on my Encore and a 24" 7mm-08 barrel. After a few years I wanted faster follow up shots and now I shoot a Winchester M70 All Weather in 7mm-08.
