SCWisconsin | So... I have been planting beans for many years now with my 1780 12/31 (originally) now an 18 row 20". Everything said above is true regarding the Friesian tool bar. However: I am 90+% no till. So things are great, and roll on. The remaining acres when in bean rotation; I need to be careful. It will go down in peat soils. Keep her rolling, 6 mph in 'those spots'.
This planter is old news on this site. I'll provide some pics as a reminder. A project I did when I was much younger. Would no longer take this on. It was a 4 year project. Used it every year after purchase, just did things in stages. Box planter, to CCS with mini hoppers. Bought CCS from seed company in Indianapolis. (You can figure out who that is). Nice guys. First year of mounting CCS, it was just a 'hood ornament'. Boxes still being used. Chain drive to shaft drive. Spring down pressure to pneumatic. Martins with double wide gauge treaders. Tongue hitch to two point. Tongue light, counter weights. On and on.
Young guys have all these dreams. I can buy this cheap! I can convert this, that. Well, I did wonder what the heck I was doing in about year four, but it all worked out. Bean plant stands are exceptional. (Wish I could say the same thing about final yields ! Lol). 2025 was good.
I recall a guy from Indiana did almost identical conversion as I did. I think he started out with a 16/31. He did a great job.
