Problem with comparing oil and grain is supply side management. The powers that be in the oil industry have no problem with shutting down wells and drilling rigs if the price of oil gets too low to be worth drilling or pumping here. Grain farmers would rather see their neighbor go bankrupt and sell out than put 10% of their acres in some sort of set-aside program.
