Eastern NE KS | the bull is doing well, trots to feed, cleans the pan asap and complains he wants back with his peers.
He bloated 2x and I let him down twice, moved him to isolation and carefully brought him back to a little more than normal feedings of grain mix with excess free-choice prairie hay.
He is at the early stages 6# feed mix. I'll continue increasing to 7# then he will return to his group that is still at 5#. The idea is to test him to a higher volume to train the gut allowing for aggressive eating.
In general, calves are doing well. We have muddy conditions but things are no longer dusty. Hay consumption is ratcheting higher. Manure is softly solid with ringlets. I think they are ready to switch to cool season grass hay with 1-2% more protein than prairie.
Thank you for all your comments and suggestions. You folks helped me work through the recovery. Thanks again.
